Congratulations are in order to Riley Yang for winning her age group at the Drive Chip and Putt Regional Competition held at Olympic Club on September 10th. 80 contestants from Alabama, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California competed in 4 age groups for boys and girls with only the winner in each age category advancing to the finals. Riley Yang had a tough start with her initial drive landing OB for zero points, followed by two hard cuts netting only 16 points and second to last place for the drive portion of the competition. However, she was able to turn things around in the chipping portion by almost chipping in her first two chips, followed by a third chip to 2 feet and a total of 55 points and first place on the Chip portion. Her speed control on the Putt portion was also flawless as she put all three putts inside 3 feet for a total of 50 points and first place in putting. Her final total of 121 points was enough to win first place by 5 points and advancing to the national finals to be held at Augusta National Golf Club on April 2, 2017, the Sunday before the Masters. We will be looking for her on the Golf Channel for a live broadcast of the Drive Chip and Putt Finals.
